About Ikano

Wine made by
Friends
Ikano Estate began as a dream shared by friends from 11 countries, brought together by their deep admiration for Georgia’s timeless beauty and cherished traditions. Since 2008, this global collective has journeyed through the country’s 8,000-year-old winemaking heritage, inspired to honor its ancient craft. United by passion and purpose, they pour their hearts into creating limited quantities of premium Georgian wine—each bottle a celebration of friendship, history, and the enduring spirit of Georgia.

Wine Rooted in
Tradition
At Ikano Estate, every bottle of wine is a bridge between the past and present, deeply rooted in Georgia’s ancient traditions. The heart of our craft lies in the qvevri method, an 8,000-year-old winemaking practice that embodies the soul of Georgian culture. These large, hand-crafted clay vessels, buried beneath the earth, serve as both fermenters and timekeepers, nurturing the wine as it evolves naturally.
Our dedication to this time-honored process is more than a technique—it’s a homage to generations of Georgian winemakers who perfected the art of letting the land and its fruits tell their own story. By using qvevris, we embrace minimal intervention, allowing our wines to express their true character, shaped by the ancient soil and traditions of Georgia. Every sip carries the spirit of a heritage that has endured for millennia, connecting us to the origins of winemaking itself.

Wine made by
Nature
At Ikano Estate, our vineyards are at the heart of everything we do. Our vineyards are nurtured without chemical fertilizers or fungicides, relying solely on biodynamic practices to ensure the health of the vines and the environment. During harvest, we handpick each grape with care, using a meticulous selection method to gather only the finest fruit.
The grapes are gently transported in 15kg boxes to preserve their integrity, traveling just meters from the vineyard to the estate. Upon arrival, they are carefully sorted on a vibrating table to ensure that only the best make it into our wines. Destemmed and lightly crushed, these exceptional grapes yield the highest-quality juice—the essence of what makes our wines truly distinctive

Georgia
Georgia is the birthplace of wine, with a tradition spanning over 8,000 years. Our winery is located in the heart of an ancient urban center, rich with historical wineries and wine artifacts. During construction, we uncovered the ancient city wall of Nekresi, which we preserved in partnership with the Georgian National Museum. Just 100 meters from our winery, you can find remnants of a 1st-century cellar and other infrastructure dating from the 2nd century B.C. to the 9th century A.C.
Honoring this rich tradition, we craft our wines in qvevris, using Georgia’s ancient methods and minimal intervention. With 20 qvevris, we produce 40,000 bottles of authentic Georgian wine each year.
